They dig into his award-winning documentary, From the Cowboy’s Boot Heel: The Musical Journey of Rob McNurlin. Steven shares the wild story of how a misunderstood Facebook post about retirement sparked the film. He also shares what it was like capturing the life of an authentic Appalachian troubadour who went from local coffee shops to recording with John Carter Cash. The fellas talk about country music heritage, the grit of the independent music scene, and what it was like for Steven to interview the powerhouse lineup of roots music icons who participated in the film—including Marty Stuart, David Prince (aka Laid Back Country Picker), Chris Stapleton bassist JT Cure, Kenny Vaughan, Chris Scruggs, and the legendary Kayton Roberts.
